This is one of the most ridiculous stories our government has produced lately, and that's saying something. Apple products of nevermore. The Pentagram firm seems to have some good ideas, but for all the beauty in their designs, they're a bit cluttered. Jumper by Steven Gould. Sounds like a good book that I'd want to hide inside of a copy of The Economist. Visual Thesaurus. I've played with this almost once a week but haven't managed to share it with anyone. it's a super-cool tool, and I really like the choice of web-based subscription or a desktop app. Intro of the NeXT computer. Busy day today. We took apart a lot of crap, and the links have suffered but I don't care. New NIN single "The Hand That Feeds." Bubb 8 Links: Day Seven

Neuromancer BBC radio play. Neuromancer audio torrent. I haven't downloaded this yet, but I'm all about it. Anyone who hasn't read Gibson would do well to pick up either this book or Burning Chrome. Anyone who has should agree with me that the reason Gibson's stories don't get made into movies anymore is Kee-new Ree-vez. Missing Fiona Apple record thriving underground. Apparently it's brilliant but Sony doesn't feel like releasing it. This sort of thing makes me wish Apple/Amazon would provide the resources for artists to publish independently. 35th Anniversary Adidas Superstars. The Ian Brown editions...I'd be in there like swim-wear except, "my portfolio is mostly tied up in food and shelter." Hogzilla! The biggest boar you've ever seen, and therefore the best hillbilly meal ever. Shanghai's maglev train. Fasted train in the world; thing needs 7 miles to come down from 220 mph. Recreating Strangelove with household crap. The most amazing part of this project is how frighteningly similar the recreations are. It takes a minute to notice what's different. The Guns n' Roses album that never was. Some might hate me for this, but I'm glad it never happened. There's no way it would approach Use Your Illusion, much less Appetite.

Bubb 8 Links: Day Two

Interview with Jason Fried, President of 37signals, builders of Basecamp. This software is so cool, it makes me wish my friends and I were more organized around...anything. A day in the life of Darth Vader using film quotes. Hilarious!! This sort of thing should become a repeat gag for movie buffs. Rant on the problems of the video game industry. Pretty good insight, if a bit too heavy on the industry lingo. New Revenge of the Sith trailer. Check this out, if you're a Star Wars geek and feel like shitting your pants. Use Bittorrent and RSS to automate TV show downloads. If this sort of thing reaches critical mass (i.e. every user uploads one show), then we'll never need to buy TiVOs. Tips and tricks for managing email. Dealing with massive amounts of email can be troubling. Let this androgynous being help you.

Lunch at Caffe Macs

Sitting on the edge of the patio at Caffe Macs, I sip on the remainder of my smoothie and enjoy the sunny, cloudless, 75 degree lunch hour. The lawn is manicured perfectly, and watching the various people wander out from their buildings towards food is perfect fun. The volleyball guys have yet to set up their court, and thus with the expanse of grass across the center of campus, it is becoming clear that there will have to be many a game of ultimate frisbee launched out here. As always, the game will start as simple catch amongst a few of us, but I have no doubt once we reach a critical mass a game organization will happen. It's also rather entertaining to scope all the people walking across campus. There are your geeks, both over and under weight. There are also hot women, sandals with socks, ponytails, Sonic Youth shirts, utility belts, suits (only on visitors), and children. More on the Cupertino experience later, time to get back to getting smarter.

Genius status 33.3% confirmed

Help Desk Essentials results I just completed my first Mac Genius exam in less than 40 minutes (we're given two hours). While it wasn't outright murder, I did put the "Help Desk Essentials Exam" quite thoroughly to rest.

There are two more exams to complete before the end of next week, but it's good to know I've the big mean one handled. I will be able to enjoy Friday's beer bash, secure in the knowledge that I am one step closer to be smarter than most.

I'm getting pretty hungry, I think I'll try our burritos in the Caffe today.

10 March 2005

Something to go with my food

So every time I make a sandwich, or when I have a bowl of soup, I am in need of something to go with it. I find I enjoy myself with simply eating. It's got to be accompanied by something else; a person to talk with, some news to read, and it often comes down to television. I used to spend Friday nights in my living room watching the X-Files with all the lights off, a pizza and root-beer wouldn't have been acceptable on their own. At the moment, my peanut butter and jelly are accompanied by a particularly moving speech from the biggest man in rock. Bono spoke at TED2006, and thankfully the techie philosophy ensured that his brilliant words have been made available for free. Listen to the man, for he is compelling. You may want to make yourself a bit of something first though. Bono speaks at TED2006
